1. Stated Single Purpose
Synopsize (operated via synopsize.app) is a browser extension designed with a single, dedicated purpose: to summarize, structure, and visualize public video content on YouTube™ into notes, mind maps, and clickable timestamps for educational and productivity use. All data access, features, and permissions exist solely to fulfill this primary functionality.
2. Information We Access & Process
Synopsize operates strictly on a user-initiated basis. We do not run background monitoring or track your browsing activity across the web.
- Video Transcript Data: When you open the Synopsize side panel on a YouTube™ video page, the extension extracts the publicly available transcript text, video title, channel name, and timestamp metadata required to generate a summary.
- User Preferences: Theme settings (Light/Dark mode) and export settings are stored locally on your device via Chrome Local Storage (
chrome.storage.local). - No Personal Identifiable Information (PII): We do not collect, store, or request your real name, email address, IP address, browsing history, or payment details.
3. Chrome Extension Permissions Justification
In compliance with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies, Synopsize requests only the minimum permissions necessary to function:
activeTab: Grants access to the current YouTube™ tab only when you explicitly interact with the extension icon or side panel.sidePanel: Used to render the summary and mind map alongside video playback without interrupting your viewing experience.storage: Allows saving your preferred layout options and dark/light mode preference locally in your browser.scripting: Used exclusively to extract transcript elements from the active YouTube page upon request.
4. Use of Artificial Intelligence & Third-Party Processors
To generate summaries and mind maps, extracted transcript text is securely transmitted over HTTPS to our serverless API proxy endpoints and processed by encrypted AI model APIs. Transmitted transcript data is processed statelessly: it is used exclusively to generate the immediate output returned to your browser and is not retained, logged, or used for model training or profiling.
5. Chrome Web Store Limited Use Disclosure
Synopsize's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements:
- Data is used solely to provide or improve the core user-facing features of Synopsize.
- Data is never transferred to third parties except as necessary to provide or improve single-purpose user features, comply with applicable law, or protect against security threats.
- Data is never used or transferred for personalized advertisements, cross-site tracking, credit-worthiness evaluation, or lending purposes.
- Data is never sold or rented to data brokers, advertising platforms, or information resellers under any circumstances.
- No human employee or contractor reads user data unless explicit consent is provided for technical support or security investigations.
6. Data Retention & User Rights
Because Synopsize does not maintain central user accounts or databases, we do not store persistent user transcript logs. Clearing your local browser cache/storage or removing the extension instantly deletes all locally stored preferences.
7. Policy Changes & Contact
If our data handling practices change in future updates, we will post an updated policy on synopsize.app and issue an explicit notification inside the browser extension before changes take effect. For privacy inquiries or support, contact us at privacy@synopsize.app or submit a message using our contact page.
